Day 1 - Arrival in Las Vegas
Today is the day you drive to one of the most bizarre places in America, and perhaps the world. You're going to Las Vegas! From the desert, you can see a sea of lights in the distance. With open mouths, we drove onto The Strip, Vegas' main street. Neon casinos invite you in, pyramids rise next to you. Where should you look? What kind of world have you arrived in? Rollercoasters go over the top straight through the city, gondolas cruise at The Venetian and lions yawn at the hotel entrance. You will stay the next few nights in one of the over the top themed hotels right on Las Vegas Boulevard (The Strip).
Las Vegas The gambling paradise
Vegas is one big gambling paradise. In every hotel, coins ring and poker chips are pushed across the table. People walk in and out with broad smiles or sad looks. Day and night you stumble over tourists and men in suits with tight haircuts and sunglasses. Slide into a low-stakes table so the croupier has time to explain the game to you. Learn what good and bad cards are and a little bluffing. On to the real thing!
Day 2 - Staying in Las Vegas
You probably didn't go to bed until the early hours. You don't have to do anything at all today and can sleep in peace. Life in Las Vegas takes place at night. During the day it can get scorching hot, as the city is in the middle of the desert. We found it nice to schedule a day of rest, so relaxing after a night in Vegas AND the many miles you've already travelled. Find a sun bed and umbrella by the pool, order a fresh juice and finally read a chunk in the book you brought along. Want to see Las Vegas during the day? Then do so in the morning, when the temperature is still pleasant.
An evening on The Strip
An evening stroll along the Strip provides entertainment well into the night. Cruise romantically with a gondolier under the Rialto Bridge to the Palazzo at The Venetian. Walk from Paris to New York in an hour and also take in Hollywood. Listen to classical music tones and watch dozens of fountains dance at Bellagio.
Besides its many casinos, Vegas is also known for lavish dinner shows and performances by famous artists. Check online for the schedule of shows and book in advance!
Day 3 - On to Sequoia or Yosemite!
Today you leave the world of everything 'over the top' behind you again. Once on the highway, the city quickly gets smaller in your rear-view mirror. Put your air conditioning on the coldest setting when you travel on to Death Valley today; the hottest and driest part of America to the building block From sand desert to giant tree. In the hot summer months, we advise you to avoid Death Valley and plan an overnight stay at the cooler Mammoth Lakes. After this you will travel on to the mountain valley pathfinding building block.
