With the Latino population continuing to increase at record rates and to settle in new regions of the country, the needs, barriers and challenges related to domestic violence continue to grow and require focused attention. Alianza, with its history of developing resources and providing training, technical assistance, and leadership to OVW grantees, DV providers and community-based organizations (CBOs) across the country, is in an ideal position to address these needs and concerns.
As part of its training & technical assistance services, Alianza organizes national conferences and trainings that help service providers and advocates who work with Latinas/os enhance their knowledge and skills. At this time Alianza is offering the following trainings:

This interactive two-day train the trainer workshop and follow-up technical assistance will provide OVW grantee organizations and other domestic violence service providers that serve Latina survivors with the knowledge and resources needed to help survivors attain economic independence. The training can be conducted in either Spanish or English. Workshop and training materials (curriculum, handouts and training video) will include information on the following topics:

This is a two-day cultural proficiency training for domestic violence service providers and advocates, with an emphasis on DV state coalitions and other OVW grantees. The training curriculum is divided into 4 sessions and encompasses the following subject areas:
The material contained in this training program is highly sensitive and could elicit a range of emotional responses from individuals from different socio-cultural backgrounds. Trainers are skilled in sensitively managing conversations about cultural differences, racism, human rights and organizational change.

Ivonne Ortiz has provided a wide range of technical assistance and training services to domestic violence programs throughout the U.S., Dominican Republic, Mexico and Puerto Rico. She worked in North Carolina with Project Esperanza, a grassroots training program for Latinas to address DV in communities, across the state. She led the creation of the Latinos in the Movement, which promoted leadership opportunities and training for Latinos in the DV movement. In 2004, she was honored with the Comadre en la Lucha award by Arte Sana, a national organization dedicated to ending sexual violence and other forms of gender-based aggressions. In 2007, she was recognized by the North Carolina Division of Community Corrections for her efforts to improve service provision for immigrant victims of crime. Ms. Ortiz served as Alianza’s OVW Project Coordinator from October 2007 to April 2009. She returned to Alianza in May 2010 as our T&TA Coordinator. |

Jerry Tello, is a founding member of Alianza; Co-founder, National Compadres Network; and Director, of the National Latino Fatherhood and Family Institute. He is Co-editor of Family Violence and Men of Color: Healing the Wounded Mail Spirit; author of various curricula addressing male rites of passage, violence prevention, teen fatherhood, pregnancy prevention, family strengthening, and fatherhood literacy, as well as an internationally recognized authority in family strengthening, therapeutic healing, cross cultural issues and motivational speaking. Mr. Tello serves on the National Advisory Committee on Violence Against Women. |

Ricardo Carrillo, Ph.D., is a founding member of Alianza; Co-founder of Círculo de Hombres/National Compadres Network, a Psychologist, Counselor, Published Author, and Developer -Collaborator of various curricula for the prevention and cessation of domestic, gang, and community violence. He is also Co-Editor of Family Violence and Men of Color: Healing the Wounded Male Spirit. Dr. Carrillo served as Alianza’s Training Director from 2000-2003. |

Mily Treviño Sauceda, is the co-founder and the former Executive Director of Organización en California de Líderes Campesinas, Inc.( Líderes Campesinas). She has received numerous community and educational awards throughout her career. She was recognized as one of the 100 Heroines of the World in New York in 1998. In 2004, the Ford Foundation & New York University selected her for the Leadership for a Changing World award and People Magazine recognized Mily in January & April 2006. In 2009, she was honored in 4 regional rural areas in California for her 30+ years of distinguished leadership. She sits on numerous councils as well as regional and national boards and task forces. While Executive Director at Lideres Campesinas, Ms. Treviño-Sauceda partnered with Alianza on several training and technical assistance projects. |
