Job Description – Program and Training Specialist (St. Paul Office)

ORGANIZATION SUMMARY: Praxis International, Inc. is a nonprofit research and training organization that works toward the elimination of violence in the lives of women and children. We work with local, statewide, and national reform initiatives to bridge the gap between what people need and what institutions provide. Since 1996, we have worked with advocacy organizations, intervention agencies, criminal justice agencies and inter-agency collaborations to create a clear and cooperative agenda for social change in their communities. Praxis developed the Institutional Analysis (formerly Praxis Safety and Accountability Audit) as a method of examining institutional practices and their impact on women’s and children’s lives, and have worked with numerous communities to conduct audits of their institutional responses to violence against women, and child abuse cases. For the past 13 years we have implemented training and technical assistance projects for grantees of the Office on Violence Against Women, U. S. Department of Justice.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Program and Training Specialist will work closely with the Program Director to develop programming and training content and materials, and to deliver training sessions at in-person events and via audio- and video-conference sessions, for communities working to end all forms of violence against women.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: We are looking for an excellent thinker, speaker and writer, with advocacy experience, who can develop and deliver programs and training on advocacy and intervention strategies to end all forms of violence against women. The ideal candidate is an experienced trainer with substantial advocacy experience working to end violence against women or related social injustices; substantial training experience and skills, and strong writing skills. Experience working toward social change in marginalized communities is a plus. Experience in the violence against women field is preferred but not required. Out-of-state travel is required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least 5 years of advocacy experience within the violence against women advocacy field, or related social change/justice fields.
• Substantial knowledge of advocacy to end violence against women, or related progressive social justice advocacy work.
• By advocacy we mean working to change the conditions that cause and perpetuate violence against women or other oppressive conditions, e.g. experience with community organizing and/or working with agencies to create policy and practice changes.
• Experience or ability to work with agencies and multi-agency groups to develop intervention strategies and practices.
• Substantial experience developing and conducting training sessions
• Program development experience and skills.
• Experience working skillfully with people across cultures and economic backgrounds; experience working within marginalized communities is a plus.
• Experience working on social issues in ways that account for gender, race and class inequities in society and in the institutions people turn to for help.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills. (Applicants selected for an initial screening will be asked to submit writing/training material samples.)
• Computer proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Additional computer proficiency in Publisher, Excel or other is a plus.
• Ability to work independently and with teams to produce quality work
• Demonstrated interest and commitment to the principles embodied in the Praxis mission statement.

COMPENSATION:
This is a full-time, salaried position with an annual salary of $50,000-$60,000, dependent upon qualifications, with benefits (holiday/vacation/sick leave, health/dental/disability insurance, and retirement contributions).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Work closely with the Program Director to
  • Develop programming on institutional and cultural change to end violence against women, e.g., work with agencies and multi-agency groups to implement intervention strategies and practices.
  • Develop and conduct in-person and audio- and videoconference trainings on advocacy and intervention to end violence against women,
  • Develop and write training materials and resources e.g., curricula, faculty guides, student handbooks, slides, handouts, or video/audio materials,
  • Develop publicity language, training agendas, presentation materials, handouts and evaluations
  • Build and maintain relationships with a diverse faculty and develop and conduct faculty training sessions, and
  • Work with local and national consultants on delivery of training content and materials.
• Participate as team member in project planning, development and implementation.
• Research and collect articles and resources on advocacy and ending violence against women,
• Maintain records and produce funder reports.
• Support grant proposal writing and budget development.
• Work in cooperation with Praxis staff and consultants.
• Participate in regular staff meetings.
• Other duties and projects as assigned.
