Bride's March

The Domestic Violence Bride's March is an event which is held annually in remembrance of Ms. Ricart, a Dominican woman, who was murdered in New Jersey on September 26,1999, by a former abusive boyfriend on the day she was to wed someone else.
The march started in New York City in 2001. Alianza - The National Latino Alliance for the Elimination of Domestic Violence can guide you on how to organize such a march so that you can hold your own DV Memorial walk with success. Our underlying goal of this march is to attract wide media coverage and community participation in order to raise awareness about the tragic effects of DV on our families and communities. It is our hope that through organizing Bride's marches in different parts of the country - men, women, youth and children can raise community consciousness and prompt people to take action to stop the violence against women in our homes, communities and around the world. Just imagine the impact that could be created if scores of communities across the country would organize such a march on the same day and at the same time -- how powerful the message that would reach thousands, perhaps millions of people!
Alianza's Guide Book to Organizing a Bride's March contains the framework to take you step by step through this planning process. This process was originally inspired by a coalition of Latina women in New York who have successfully organized such a march for many years.
Alianza will not only provide the Guidebook, but will also provide technical assistance by providing conference calls or traveling to your community for training and/or attending your march, providing letters of support for funding purposes, helping with media, and preparing press releases, etc.
Please call us if you wish to purchase the guidebook, which is available for sale at $20. All our other technical assistance is FREE regarding the bride's march (except for traveling expenses).
